yeah more victorian drawings part 2

Victorian Woman

I then focus my attention to more traditional art. I found very good examples for design inspirations. I decided to include more content about Victoriana because I did not had enough overview on the typography and art style. I ended up finding some excellent Victorian drawings that look visually pleasing.

The image on the side portrays the woman in the upper class Victorian society as rich and clean. The main focal point is the highlights, the victorian style of clothing and movement of the female. The highlights gives the drawing great detail and enables her hair to look beautiful. Due to the drawing style, which is smooth, this image comes across as elegant.

In terms of composition, there is a shape with a grey background a front of a brighter background. Having the hair overlapping the border, it suggests that she is putting her face outside the frame.  There is a great detail into the patterns of the dress, for example flowers on the, which enhances the dress design. It makes the dress look vintage and professionally designed by a tailor Due to the intense detail on the hair and the flower patterns, there is a possibility this was created in Illustrator. I found that the woman pose draws my attention because it comes across a energetic. As the images does not feature background imagery  it makes the drawing look clean and appear easy on the eye.

As I did not included enough typography into my blog, it was the best decision to analyse the font. This is good representation of fonts used in the Victorian age. The main font that makes me think of Victoriana is the san serif text that is joined up, which symbolises handwriting . The fonts's ears, ascenders and defenders feature curves that make the text look busy and elegant. The position of the baseline changes when there is a capital letter or there is an arc. As for it's use, using joined up writing enables people to write faster.

Some types of typography are used to present imagery and themes. If you look at the the the word 'bright', the design and the arc looks very similar to the Brighton or Palace Pier sign.  The use of the wide range of typography enables the drawing to catch a person's eye.

The structure for this artwork looks busy and disorganised  To prevent the text overlapping each other, I can see line breaks that separates the words slightly. As the joined up text feature long curves and lines, the design of the centre looks complex.

The main message this artwork is trying to convey is the that people should be very creative with the typography and look at the historic values.

This is another poster that promotes typeface with imagery. Including a victorian drawing of a man with the text makes the text more recognisable and visually interesting. Due to the drawing featuring a sailors hat, this type of font would be suitable for content related to boats and the sea. The serif text contain thick steam with brackets with an artistic feel.

The bright red makes me focus on the text rather than the imagery. This has been done on purpose because the design's main aim is for me to learn the importance of using the right font. To me, the overall font design and colour scheme comes across and masculine, which gives a sense of power. This is relevant because Victorian age had strong and hard working workers.

As for the drawing style, the hand drawn sketch results in the overall design of the male as very relaxing and artistic.

The first thing that comes to my mind for these Victorian objects is ancient Greeks. The faces on the these statues represent gods or goddesses of Greece. The decorations come across as elegant, which is one characteristic of Victoriana. The most interesting element of these drawings are the highlights and shadowing.  The shadowing enhances the facial details particularly on the eyes, which causes face to be the most noticeable.

The typography displays handwritten text, which represents popular font-faces at the time. This makes the visual style of the content looks formal and artistic. This tone of language represents the conservative society at the time.

Overall the layout of the image looks clean and empty. This is appropriate because it is intended to appear as formal.
